It’s because the relative intensity is much harder even with the same RIR. Almost anybody can take a set of flat chest press to failure, machine or otherwise. Almost nobody takes a set of leg press or hack squats to failure. It hurts.
RIP legend. Anytime I have an inkling of a question on form or potential tips to improve a lift for myself, I still come back to this man's channel. Still run his programs. You touched a lot of lives Mr. Meadows. Going all the way back to 2011 on the ship on deployment waiting 10 minutes for T-nation articles to load getting ideas from him. I know I need to cut but my calories r 1800 and I hate eating so low. So I want to cut but I neeed to increase my calories

Rip master Meadows. A word of caution, muscle soreness is recoverable, but pushing knee pain beyond pain tolerance can lead to injury. Know your limits and seek advice from reputable trainers.

My maternal grandfather was a man who worked construction until he no longer could work, using a shovel and obviously his physical strength. He was a muscular man. But super big, but for a man of about 5'8" inch tall and about 175lb is was muscular. Besides what he did for a living I never saw him eating the trash food most people eat today.
